Hiking and coves in Alicante, Calp-Benissa route

The ecological route in Alicante that you can't miss

The trail from Calp to Benissa shows that nature tourism and sun and beach tourism can go hand in hand. It is one of the most recommended routes on the Costa Blanca, accessible from different points and perfect for a quick getaway.

During the journey you will find a well-signposted path suitable for all audiences, surrounded by cliffs, pine forests and Mediterranean vegetation. Along the route there are small coves such as Pinets, Llobella and l'Advocat, ideal for taking a break and enjoying the surroundings.

In addition, in several areas – especially near the coves – there are hospitality spaces where you can have a drink or eat before continuing.

A 3 and a half hour circular tour by the sea

The route begins (or ends) at the Peñón de Ifach (Calp) and reaches Cala Baladrar (Benissa). The complete route, round trip, is just under 10 kilometers, so doing it calmly can take around 3 and a half hours.

One of its great advantages is that it has different accesses, which allows you to join at the point that interests you most and adapt the distance to the time available.

The slope is gentle – just over 350 metres of ascent and descent – making it a suitable itinerary for families. Along the way there are benches to rest and enjoy the views, as well as picnic areas with tables where you can organize a picnic.

You will also find information panels on fauna and flora, which adds an educational component to the walk. Of course, it is worth bearing in mind that there are several stairs, which is important for people with reduced mobility.

Practical tips for travelling the Calp-Benissa route

You don't need a lot of physical preparation, but you do need to take precautions, especially in summer. Given the approximate duration of the tour, it is best to start early or leave it for late afternoon to avoid the central hot hours.

In some sections it is possible to turn off towards the coves and walk along the coastline. To do this, it is important to check the tide table, as it will need to be low to do so safely.

As with any hiking trip, don't forget to bring enough water, suitable footwear, a hat, sunscreen and fresh clothes. If you plan to swim, add a swimsuit and, if you prefer, trekking poles.

The most beautiful coves to take a dip

in

Without a doubt, one of the great attractions of this route is to stop at its many coves. The most outstanding are Cala Pinets, Cala Llobella and Cala de l'Advocat, as well as Cala Baladrar.

Cala Pinets

Many of them are rocky and wilder in nature, so wearing booties can make it easier to get in and out of the water. Its natural environment and its lower influx compared to other better-known beaches make bathing especially pleasant.

If you visit the area in spring, summer or autumn, you will be able to enjoy its crystal clear waters more comfortably and take advantage of the full experience: walking by the sea and ending the day with a refreshing dip in the heart of the Costa Blanca.
