Spain is positioned as the main destination for US investment

Jaime Malet, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain (AmChamSpain), believes that Spain enjoys a "strategic position" on the world map, and therefore, has to consolidate itself as one of the main destinations for European and American investment in Europe , especially in key sectors such as semiconductors, data centers, artificial intelligence, green energy (especially hydrogen and derivatives and the electrification of vehicles), biomedicine, cybersecurity, etc.

He also believes that Spanish companies have to take more dimension and capacity in the United States. This was pointed out by Malet at the opening of the conference "Global Trends 2023: Energy, technology and friendshoringin times of global turbulences", organized in collaboration with Europa Press, in which more than 30 senior leaders and top executives of international companies participate, which is celebrated today in Madrid.

Likewise, Malet pointed out that "we are living a moment of profound transformation and change, with challenges that affect all companies and sectors. The war in Europe, the technological boom, the incursion of artificial intelligence and environmental challenges are accelerating processes and changing the rules of the game. AmChamSpain is at the forefront of all these challenges, contributing to increase opportunities and grow by increasing the productive fabric in our country", he said.

"The fundamental objective of our institution is to collaborate in improving the competitiveness, productivity and internationalization of Spain, stimulate investment and trade between the US and Spain and promote technology transfer," he recalled.

Malet also states that "the world is on its way to dividing into two blocks. Spain must be in the bloc of countries that defend values such as democracy, the rule of law and the freedom of citizens. Europe has to align itself with the US and recover the idea of generating a space of regulatory security, secure exchange of goods and a level playing field for US exports to Europe and vice versa. I always defended the frustrated free trade and investment agreement between Europe and the United States," he said.
