Tips for returning home after the holidays

If we have gone on a trip or have spent part of the summer in our second home, the moment of arriving at our home can be quite overwhelming.

Reopening the house, unpacking our suitcases or putting on the washing machines, we have to do too many things, where do we start? In this guide we teach you how to prioritise so that the return home on holiday is not as overwhelming as it seems.

1. Ventilate the house: the first thing we must do
Before we start organizing, let's open windows and curtains. It doesn't matter if everything has been closed for a week or more, or if someone has come in to water the plants. Ventilation is to recover the air, let out the smell of closed air and allow the home to "breathe" with us.

It will help us to cool the house, which will generate a greater sense of well-being.  We will then take the opportunity to take a quick first walk through the rooms, make sure that everything is in order, and if we have plants, check if they need good watering or a change of pot.

2. Unpack vacation bags with method
If we do it in an organized way, the moment of unpacking can be less tedious and more effective.

Placing the suitcase in a comfortable place is the first step. Avoid leaving it on the floor of the hallway or in the middle of the living room. Finding a tall surface (such as a bed or a clear table) will prevent us from constantly bending over and will help maintain order from the beginning.
Let's start with the toiletry bag and the first aid kit. They are the objects that are most out of place in the suitcase, and the ones that we need to have located the most quickly.
We continue with the clothes: ideally, we have already separated those that are clean from those that need to be washed. If so, we can hang clean clothes on hangers to ventilate and stretch. A good trick is to use an anti-wrinkle spray so you don't have to iron.
Finally, the washing machine: it is advisable not to do everything at once. Sorting by color will help us to organize ourselves better and not saturate the washing machine. The important thing is not to turn it into a long-distance race. We can do one laundry in the morning and another the next day.

3. Clean the house lightly, without demands
You don't need to do a deep cleaning on the first day after returning home from vacation. A light and strategic cleaning is enough to feel good.

Running a cloth over the most visible surfaces, sweeping common areas and changing sheets or towels if we need it can be enough to regain comfort. In 15 minutes we can put the house in order.

It's not about doing it all, but about creating a sense of freshness and order. If we see that there are dirtier areas (such as the kitchen or bathroom), we can write them down to clean them later, when we have more time or energy.

4. Organize the house by zones
A good way to avoid chaos is to organize by spaces. This allows us to have small achievements that encourage us to continue.

For example, we can focus first on the bedroom (making the bed, placing the clothes, leaving free space), then on the bathroom (rearranging products, throwing away what is in bad condition) and later organizing the kitchen (see expiration dates, make a small shopping list).

The goal is not to leave the house spotless in one day, but to regain harmony little by little and put order without stress.

5. Reconnect with your home through small pleasures
Not everything is going to be washing, tidying up and tidying up. Returning home from vacation can also be comforting if we take a few minutes to enjoy it.

We can prepare an infusion or a coffee, light a candle with a pleasant aroma, listen to music that relaxes us or simply sit for five minutes in our favorite corner. Sometimes, reconnecting with home means remembering how much we love being in it.

In addition, it can be a good time to rethink small changes: incorporate the Feng-Shi philosophy into our home, move some furniture, rearrange a shelf or place that souvenir of the trip that fits perfectly in the living room.

Returning home from vacation does not have to become a source of stress. It will be enough for us not to want to do everything on the same day, we prioritize the most important things and look for ways to reconnect with our home.

The most important thing will be to give ourselves permission to do everything at our own pace.
